To paint is to make marks, to layer in advancing steps toward completion. My work is a rebellion of this centuries-old tradition of what is the progressive additive mark making nature of painting.
Elevating the role of gesso from foundation ingredient into the primary component, and using exposed raw canvas as juxtaposing spacial element, I confront the viewer to focus on the intrinsic value of what is constitutes a painting, a work of art.
Using imageries to references a myriad of cultural and sub-cultural sources and methodologies of thinking, philosophy, and historical events, I construct a visual language seductively simple to grab ones attention and complex in allegory as to require further investigation toward a resolution of arbitrariness.
